Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says that stopping oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline would be a violation by Ukraine of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the European Union.
"Oil transit through Ukraine is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the EU regarding freedom of transit, and also meets the conditions of the sixth package of EU sanctions," Shmyhal said during the hour of questions to the government in the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, which was broadcast live on YouTube by MP Oleksiy Honcharenko (the European Solidarity faction).
The Prime Minister stressed that stopping oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline would be a violation by Ukraine of the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the EU.
He noted that Ukraine's violation of its international obligations could be used as a basis for holding the country accountable for stopping uninterrupted oil supplies, in particular to Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and for putting forward appropriate financial conditions after international arbitration.
