The total capacity of distributed gas generation units connected in Ukraine by December 31, 2024, amounted to 967 MW, of which 835 MW were commissioned this year.
"By the end of the 2024-2025 heating season, it is planned to connect an additional 900 MW. Some of this capacity is already in the final stages of implementation," the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported on Tuesday.
Thus, as noted by the department, from 0.9 GW to 1.8 GW of additional gas capacity may be available and used during the current heating season.
"Work on connecting additional generating capacities continues. The government has made all necessary decisions to simplify permitting procedures as much as possible and speed up construction and connection times. The positive results of these decisions are already noticeable today," emphasized Energy Minister Herman Haluschenko.
The Ministry of Energy added that for security reasons, detailed information on the development of distributed energy capacities is not yet being disclosed, since the Russian Federation uses all data to strike at the energy infrastructure.
According to power grid operators, some generating facilities are connected to the technological electrical networks of consumers and are used to cover the own needs of enterprises and communities, which has a positive effect on the security of electricity supply to these consumers and, as a result, a decrease in the overall level of consumption in the integrated power system of Ukraine.
"Thanks to this, the load is reduced during peak hours and the consequences of applying measures to limit consumption during periods of deficit in the functioning of the national energy system are mitigated," the ministry explained.
The Ministry of Energy called on owners of distributed generation units to take advantage of the existing electricity market model and participate in the provision of auxiliary and balancing services.
As reported with reference to Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for the Restoration of Ukraine – Minister of Communities and Territories Development Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukrainian communities throughout the country continue to install and launch energy equipment received from international partners as part of the heating season, more than 50% of which has already been installed and is in operation.
Kuleba at a meeting of the Ukrainian Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the president of Ukraine on December 17 reported that international partners have confirmed the delivery of 486 cogeneration units, 296 block-modular boiler houses, and more than 50% of the delivered equipment has already been installed and is in operation. The rest is being prepared for operation.
