Polish trade inspectorate rejects almost 22 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat

The Polish Trade Inspectorate for the Quality of Agricultural and Food Products (IJHARS) in Rzeszow has decided to ban the circulation of a batch of durum wheat imported from Ukraine, totaling 21,998 tonnes, on the Polish market.

As the inspection reported on the X social network last Friday, the decision was made due to the low protein content in the batch of durum wheat.

The decision was immediately implemented.

IJHARS inspectors from Rzeszow made a similar decision to ban the import of eight batches of rice, totaling 200 tonnes, imported from Myanmar, due to the presence of dead pests in them.

As reported, IJHARS has tightened controls over agricultural products imported to Poland since March 2024. IJHARS Chief Inspector Przemysław Rzodkiewicz said in March that in 2023, 1.4% of batches of products from Ukraine inspected by the border commission were rejected.

Poland has banned 22.59 tonnes of flaxseed, 46 tonnes of malting barley, 15.61 tonnes of Ukrainian ice cream, 10.55 tonnes of sponge cakes, 5.34 tonnes of bagels with a total weight of 10.55 tonnes imported from Ukraine from its market during the year, and on April 9 – for three batches of Ukrainian bagels with a total weight of 5.34 tonnes, 57.66 tonnes of tomato paste.

In early April 2024, the Polish trade inspectorate announced the largest fine in its history of 1.5 million zlotys (about $380,000) imposed on an importer company for importing 11,500 tonnes of industrial rapeseed and feed wheat from Ukraine to the Polish market.
