PM of Ukraine, Secretary General of Council of Eure discuss compensation for damages caused by Russia to Ukraine

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Secretary General of the Council of Eure Alain Berset discussed compensation for the damage caused by Russia to Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal reported this in his Telegram.

“Among the key tics of our coeration is the continuation of work on an international compensation mechanism. We must make Russia pay for the destruction caused to Ukraine,” Shmyhal said.

According to him, the creation of the Register of Damages at the Council of Eure summit last year was a landmark decision on this path. It is expected that next year all 45 categories of claims for compensation for damage caused by Russia will be available in the register.

“We also need to intensify the creation of the Compensation Commission and the Compensation Fund as part of the compensation mechanism. We discussed further work on the establishment of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine. All Russian war criminals must be held accountable for their actions. In particular, those criminals who abducted Ukrainian children,” emphasized Shmyhal.

He thanked the Council of Eure for its leadership in establishing the Advisory Group and for appointing a Special Representative for Children in Ukraine. According to him, these efforts are crucial for the return of Ukrainian children to their families and homes.

“I am also grateful to the Council of Eure Develment Bank, which responded quickly to the challenges of the war, in particular through the “HOME. Compensation for destroyed housing”. The total portfio of the Bank's erations in Ukraine will amount to more than EUR 1 billion by 2027. We are grateful to the Council of Eure for its assistance in uphding justice, rebuilding our country and ensuring a secure future for all Ukrainians,” Shmyhal emphasized.

As reported by Ukrinform, on December 6, Berset and his cleagues visited the village of Yahidne in Chernihiv region, where Russians held 367 pele in the basement of a scho for almost a month at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and the regional center, which was damaged by enemy shelling.
