A new biomethane plant owned by Teofipol Energy Company has been put into operation in Ukraine, making it the largest in the industry.
What new biomethane plant has been launched in Ukraine?
The new plant is the largest in the industry – its design capacity is about 56 million cubic meters of biomethane annually, writes ExPro.
Thanks to the enterprise, the total number of biomethane producers in Ukraine has increased to six. A feature of the facility is its direct connection to the gas transmission system, which allows for direct integration of biomethane into the main gas flows. This distinguishes it from most other producers that operate through gas distribution networks.
Currently, out of six operating enterprises, four supply biomethane to gas pipelines (three to gas distribution networks, one to the gas transmission system), two more produce bio-LNG – liquefied biomethane, which is transported by cryogenic tanks.
It is expected that another, seventh biomethane plant will be commissioned in Ukraine this year.
By the way, the export of Ukrainian biomethane to Germany may become one of the most promising areas of energy cooperation between the two countries, writes “Agro Perspektyva”.
For the European Union, and Germany in particular, Ukrainian biomethane can become part of the energy transition, a tool for reducing dependence on fossil fuels . For Ukraine, this is an opportunity to open a new export direction that simultaneously works for economic growth, green transformation, and deeper integration into the European energy market.
In 2025, Ukrainian companies exported more than 11.2 million cubic meters of biomethane of their own production. At the same time, Ukraine has a strong potential for biomethane production thanks to the agricultural sector. For us, this is not only a matter of energy, but also of economic development and creating added value in the agricultural sector. Cooperation with Germany in this direction is an example of a mutually beneficial partnership, where both parties benefit,
– says Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Vysotsky.
What is the situation with natural gas in Ukraine and the world?
-
Ukraine's Naftogaz is in talks with Romania's OMV Petrom to jointly develop a gas field. Ukraine has 467 natural gas fields, but Russian attacks on infrastructure are putting their exploitation at risk.
-
Natural gas prices in Europe fell 17% after Trump's comments about a possible end to the war in Iran. The energy market remains volatile due to critically low gas reserves in Europe and competition for supplies from Asia.
-
Britain faces the threat of a gas shortage due to dwindling supplies and conflicts in the Middle East affecting supplies. The British government denies that gas reserves will last only 2 days, emphasizing diversified supply chains.
