The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has appealed to the leadership of the central banks of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Vietnam, Turkey and Kyrgyzstan with a request to stop any operations with payment cards of the MIR payment system on the territory of these countries.
"Funding of armed aggression against Ukraine must be stopped. That is why we very much count on the support of our initiatives by international partners," the NBU said in a statement, citing words of its governor Kyrylo Shevchenko.
In particular, we are talking about the termination of servicing MIR cards in the network of ATMs and POS-terminals, as well as the impossibility of using them in the field of e-commerce and during P2P transfers.
As reported, after the decision of Visa and MasterCard to stop servicing Russian cards, the Central Bank recommended that customers of Russian banks use MIR cards in those countries where they are accepted.
In addition, after the statements of Visa and MasterCard, large Russian banks announced that they are considering the possibility of issuing a Mir card with Chinese UnionPay.
