What does this mean for Ukrainians?

The increase in prices at McDonald's reflects the general trend of rising prices for fast food in Ukraine. Fast food is gradually moving from the “affordable food” category to the segment of regular mid-level spending. For consumers, this means:

  1. Fewer impulse purchases
  2. Go to sample orders
  3. Growing share of home-cooked food and alternative establishments

Please note! McDonald's is gradually changing its pricing model in Ukraine, and fast food is becoming less of an “affordable daily option” and more of a recurring expense. Students, families with children, and office workers who often take combos or order delivery will especially feel the changes.

Why and how will food prices increase in Ukraine?

Prices for products in Ukraine will continue to move upwards, and it is impossible to completely stop this process. Experts explain: the cost is influenced by both global trends and natural and economic factors. This was stated by the first vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, Mykhailo Nepran, writes “TSN”.

In recent years, rising prices have become a global trend: over 10 years, world prices have increased by approximately 10-30%, the difference depending on the country and type of product.

Separately, the expert also recalled the impact of the war

For example, in 2022, when the war broke out and supply chains were disrupted, prices rose by 70% and then fell by 20%. So prices are rising all over the world – that's the first.

Prices are seriously affected by weather conditions and harvests:

  • droughts
  • floods
  • frost

Economic factors also play a significant role.

And the third point is economic processes: wars and the same issues of providing fertilizers, diesel fuel, and fuels and lubricants – this also affects prices,
– says Nepran.

In general, the expert expects further price increases: the overall price increase is approximately 10-20%, depending on the product and production costs.
