Kyiv Polytechnic Institute intends to create cogeneration units to minimize electricity costs

The National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Pioneer Institute” strives to achieve autonomy in the field of energy efficiency and reduce energy costs.

This was reported by the rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Pioneer Institute” Anatoly Melnichenko in an interview with Ukrinform.

“We are working on a project to install cogeneration units that allow us to simultaneously generate thermal energy for heating buildings and produce electricity. It is important for us to confirm that we, as a leading technical university, are able to meet modern challenges,” Melnichenko noted.

According to him, energy saving and energy efficiency are part of the university’s development strategy, adopted in December 2024.

“Our goal is to look for ways to diversify energy risks so that the educational process remains stable. We also installed SAR shields for the library using sponsorship funds. This is extremely important, since we have an electronic archive (about 67 thousand units of publications). Access to the servers where the electronic storage is located must be continuous. By the way, everything that the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute currently publishes is in electronic format. In addition, the library stores more than 2 million printed publications,” Melnichenko added.

The university recently launched a second autonomous SAR power plant capable of providing electricity to the Center for Selective Use of Scientific Equipment. Another SAR power plant is expected to be installed in one of the buildings of the Department of Informatics and Computer Engineering, funded by international scientific projects.

We remind you that the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NAPC) and the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Pioneer Institute” signed a memorandum of cooperation, which provides IT students with the opportunity to do an internship at the agency.
