Last year, the growth in the number of active payment cards in Ukraine accelerated to 14.7%, which is 16.9 million, reaching 132.04 million, while in 2023 their number increased by only 4.9%, or 5.34 million, according to data from the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
According to their information, the increase in the number of active cards (with at least one transaction in the last month) was 12.7%, or 6.62 million, reaching 58.75 million, which is almost the same as in 2023.
As a result of 2024, PrivatBank remains the undisputed leader, controlling 53.7% of the active cards market, although a year ago its share was slightly higher – 54.1%, and Mono (Universal Bank) increased its share from 15.4% to 16.6%.
According to the NBU, state-owned PrivatBank increased the number of active payment cards by 11%, or 3.25 million, to 31.52 million, while the monopolists saw growth of 18%, or 1.77 million, reaching 9.77 million.
Third place in the ranking is occupied by the state-owned Oschadbank: over the year, the number of its active cards increased by 5%, or by 370 thousand, to 7.78 million, which provides it with 13.2% of the market.
Raiffeisenbank occupies the fourth position, significantly behind the leaders, having increased the number of active cards by 3.4%, or 80 thousand, to 2.29 million.
Issuers with more than a million active cards also include A-Bank, which increased their number by 43.9%, or 540 thousand units, to 1.79 million, and PUMB, which increased the number by 31.6%, or 330 thousand units, to 1.37 million units.
Next in line are Ukrsibbank – 890 thousand (4.8% less than last year), nationalized Sense Bank – about 580 thousand (5.1% more), Ukrgasbank – about 500 thousand (3% less), OTP Bank – about 410 thousand (8.1% more) and Vostok Bank – about 310 thousand (17.5% more).
Among other players, it is worth highlighting the first non-bank issuer on the market – NovaPay, which increased the number of cards by 140 thousand in a year, to 150 thousand, which allowed it to take 15th place, approaching Ukreximbank (about 160 thousand), TAScombank (about 170 thousand) and Credit Agricole Bank (about 180 thousand).
