Ukrainian citizens legally residing in Poland can open their own business on the same terms as Europeans. In particular, they have the right to register an individual economic activity (JDG) – an analogue of a sole proprietorship.
How can Ukrainians open a business in Poland?
First of all, you need to obtain a PESEL number with the UKR mark. Details are explained on the public services portal.
- Step #1 – Get a PESEL number
To do this, Ukrainians can submit an application to the administration of any commune (administrative unit), indicating their first and last name, date and place of birth, citizenship, date of entry into Poland, Ukrainian identification number (if available), as well as contact details – email and Polish phone number.
Reference: The PESEL number is an 11-digit digital code that identifies an individual. It will also help you access healthcare, social assistance, etc.
- Step #2 – Register your business
After that, the person can apply for business registration – free of charge online through the CEIDG platform or directly at the municipality, writes InPoland.
You will need a Polish phone number, a bank account and a trusted profile (Profil Zaufany) for electronic identification.
- Step #3 – Choose a form of taxation
The form of taxation must be chosen depending on the type of your activity. Entrepreneurs must register with the Tax Office (Urząd Skarbowy) and the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) – for the payment of social contributions.
By the way, if the activity is subject to licensing (for example, alcohol sales), additional permits must be obtained.
Useful! If you plan to work with partners or have limited liability, you can establish a Sp. z oo (Ltd.) with a minimum authorized capital of PLN 5,000. Such registration is carried out through the S24 system or at a notary.
