Leading business associations demand the removal of tax benefits for parcels from abroad. This issue, which was excluded from the law on increasing the military tax when it was passed at the Rada, should be returned to, believes head of the parliamentary committee on finance, taxation and customs policy Danylo Hetmantsev.
"Now we are actually giving preferential treatment to the Chinese manufacturer, the foreign manufacturer, putting ours in unequal conditions. An absolutely harmful, senseless decision. Business is simply crying 'crocodile tears.' Therefore, we must return to this issue, for me it is obvious," he said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
Hetmantsev reported that last week there was a meeting with leading associations: the American Chamber of Commerce, the European Business Association, the Ukrainian Business Council, and the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.
"These four associations unanimously demand – not ask, but demand that we remove tax benefits for parcels. This is not a fiscal issue, because the Ministry of Finance estimated the fiscal effect at about UAH 8 billion, and this is not much, this is a question of saving Ukrainian business: both the manufacturer and the retailer," the head of the committee emphasized.
He added that it would be interesting to know the position on this matter of head of the board of Ukrposhta Igor Smilyansky, whom the government recently appointed authorized for customs reform.
As reported, in July of this year the government introduced to the Verkhovna Rada bill No. 11416 on amendments to the Tax Code and other laws of Ukraine on the peculiarities of taxation during the period of martial law, in which it proposed to lower the threshold for VAT and import duties on international postal items or express carrier shipments from EUR 150 to EUR 45, which caused a major debate about the advisability of such a step, after which this provision was excluded from the bill.
