Government explains new US tariffs for Ukraine as 'non-critical'
This was reported by the First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Minister of Economy Yulia Svyrydenko on Facebook, reports a Ukrinform correspondent.
“For us, a general duty of 10% will apply. There is no separate increased rate for Ukraine, unlike 31% for Moldova or 20% for the EU,” Sviridenko noted.
According to her, Ukraine's exports to the US in 2024 will reach $874 million, of which $363 million are cast iron supplies and $112 million are pipes. At the same time, Ukraine imported goods from the US worth $3.4 billion.
“If nothing changes, the US base tariff will mainly affect small producers. Therefore, we are already working to offer Ukraine more favorable conditions,” Sviridenko emphasized.
As Svyrydenko noted, Ukraine now has the opportunity to negotiate better terms, as the US statement clearly indicates such an opportunity. She also mentioned Ukraine's low tariffs on US-made goods, such as 10% on cars and 0% on coal and oil.
“Ukraine has much to offer the United States as a reliable ally and partner. Both our countries will benefit from fair tariffs,” Sviridenko concluded.
We remind you that US President Donald Trump announced the introduction of large-scale tariffs against trading partners.
