Eurean Parliament agrees to €18B support package to Ukraine

Today, without additional voting or discussion, the Eurean Parliament agreed at second reading to the allocation of EUR 18 billion in urgent macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023.

The corresponding announcement was made during the Eurean Parliament plenary session in Strasbourg before the vote started, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

As noted, no objection requests or annexes have been made and, therefore, the position of the Council of the EU is considered approved and the legislation adted. The Eurean Parliament President is expected to sign the legislation this afternoon.

As reported, yesterday, December 13, the Eurean Parliament by a simple majority of votes put consideration of the prosal of the Council of EU to provide €18 billion macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023 under the urgent procedure on the agenda. Since such a prosal was submitted for second reading, the prosed legal act is considered adted if MEPs file no objections or annexes to it.

The day before, the Council of the EU unanimously approved €18 billion package of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in 2023. Hungary, which for some time blocked the adtion of such a decision, withdrew its objections after the relevant negotiation process within the Council.

The aid package is provided to Ukraine in the form of a loan on favorable terms. The repayment period is 10 years with the possibility of extension, while the loan guarantees will be paid from the budgetary reserves of the Eurean Union.
