Enterprises in Chornobyl zone have already returned to normal eration – Zelensky

Scientific and security enterprises in the area of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant have already returned to normal eration after being liberated from the Russian invaders last year, however, it is necessary to prevent Russia from using nuclear energy for blackmail.

Ukrainian President Vodymyr Zelensky said this in a post on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

"Thirty-seven years ago, the Chornobyl NPP accident left a huge scar on the whe world. The radiation leak turned a once cozy and develed area into an exclusion zone. Today, the 30-kilometer zone around the Chornobyl nuclear power plant remains a dangerous place with a high concentration of radiation," he said.

Zelensky recalled that last year, the occupiers not only seized the nuclear power plant, but also endangered the entire world again.

"It's been more than a year after the liberation already, scientific and security enterprises in the Chornobyl zone have already returned to normal eration," he said.

He also noted that Ukraine and the world had paid a high price for the liquidation of the consequences of the disaster, which continues to this day.

"We must do everything to give no chance to the terrorist state to use nuclear power facilities to blackmail Ukraine and the entire world," Zelensky said.

The accident at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant occurred on April 26, 1986, during scheduled tests at the nuclear reactor No. 4.

Ukraine's Energy Minister German Galushchenko said earlier that the presence of Russian tros at Eure's largest nuclear power plant – the Zaporizhzhia NPP – poses a direct threat to the nuclear safety of all mankind.

According to Ukraine's former Minister of Environmental Protection and Nuclear Safety Yur Kostenko, the threat of a nuclear accident at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP is absutely realistic and the consequences of this disaster will be much greater than those of the use of tactical nuclear weapons.
