Ukraine plans to build a modern technological complex for the production of fuel assemblies for Ukrainian nuclear power plants. The construction will take place on the territory of the South Ukrainian Urban Territorial Community.

What is known about the Ukrainian government's decision?

It is emphasized that this decision opens a new page in the history of domestic nuclear energy, as reported by Energoatom.

The construction of the complex is an important step on the path to Ukraine's energy independence, as the transition to its own fuel using Westinghouse technology will contribute to increasing the safety of the fuel component of Ukraine's nuclear power plants,

The American company has already assessed and potentially qualified Energoatom's production lines for the possibility of assembling fuel assemblies. An environmental impact analysis was also conducted and a feasibility study was developed. The documentation successfully passed state examination.

The project was approved back in September 2025 – at the local level. And in March of this year, the government made the final decision on implementation.

In particular, the order specifies 2 points:

1. To agree with the proposal of the Ministry of Energy regarding the location of a nuclear facility for the production of fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors of nuclear power plants on the territory of the South Ukrainian urban territorial community of Voznesensky district, Mykolaiv region.
2. To recommend to the Joint Stock Company “National Atomic Power Generating Company “Energoatom” – the operating organization (operator) of the nuclear facility for the production of fuel assemblies for nuclear reactors of nuclear power plants, to ensure the implementation of its design and construction works.

Important! The next stage will be the development of project documentation, as well as the completion of a comprehensive state examination.

What else should you know about nuclear energy news?

• On Thursday, March 5, the United States voted for the first time against an IAEA resolution condemning attacks on Ukraine's energy system.

• The United States has said it supports the Council's ongoing consideration of an unnecessary resolution that does not help achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia.

• In particular, 20 countries voted “yes”. Another 10 abstained from voting. In total, the Council includes 35 countries.
