Agricultural imports to Ukraine increased by 10% in the first half of 2025 – IAE

This was reported by the National Research Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics” (IAE), according to a report from a Ukrinform correspondent.

“According to the State Customs Service, in January-June 2025, Ukraine imported agricultural products worth 4.262 million US dollars, which is 398 million US dollars more than in the first half of 2024,” said Bohdan Dukhnitsky, leading researcher at the Department of Agricultural Production Economics and International Integration at the Institute of Agricultural Economics.

According to him, the European Union countries continue to be key suppliers of agricultural products for Ukraine, accounting for more than 52% of total agricultural imports. In the first half of 2025, Ukraine imported agricultural products from the EU worth 2 billion 235 million US dollars.

Agricultural imports to Ukraine in January-June 2025 also came from Asian countries (US$820 million, more than 19% of total imports), Latin America (US$351 million, 8%) and Africa (US$242 million, about 6%).

The main suppliers of agricultural products to Ukraine were Poland (568 million US dollars), Turkey (345 million US dollars), Germany (322 million US dollars), Italy (202 million US dollars), the Netherlands (200 million US dollars), France (171 million US dollars), Norway (147 million US dollars), Spain (140 million US dollars), China (132 million US dollars) and Ecuador (111 million US dollars).

In the first half of 2025, the structure of agricultural imports in Ukraine, in general, remained unchanged.

Traditionally, agricultural imports to Ukraine consisted mainly of berries, fruits, and nuts (US$472 million); fish and seafood (US$444 million); alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (US$370 million); vegetables (US$355 million); other food products (US$277 million); cocoa products (US$265 million); oilseeds and processed products (US$260 million); animal feed and waste (US$226 million); tobacco products (US$213 million); tea and coffee (US$211 million).

As Dukhnitsky noted, the increase in the cost of imports of Ukrainian agricultural products at this stage is associated with stable demand for the main groups of foreign food products, as well as with the general increase in prices for them. If this trend is maintained in the second half of 2025, Ukrainian agricultural imports may show growth for the third time in a row since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.

We remind you that, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the export of agricultural products of Ukraine in January-June 2025 amounted to 11.305 billion US dollars, which is 9% less than the same period last year.
