The global coffee market remains unstable, with prices showing sharp fluctuations. Experts predict a new price increase, which Ukrainian consumers will soon feel.

What factors affect the cost of coffee?

Bohdan Dukhnytsky, a researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics, told Channel 24 that the price situation on the world coffee market has been very volatile in recent months. Thus, according to the World Coffee Organization (ICO), at the end of April 2026, the average indicative price of coffee reached $2.75/lb.

These figures are almost 3% higher than the value of February this year. However, back in December 2025 it was 3.05 USD/lb. Therefore, we can speak of a general decrease in the cost of coffee on international markets since the beginning of 2026.

On the other hand, the current determining factor is the military operations in the Middle East and the continued blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which causes an increase in the prices of oil and its refined products. This increases the costs of transporting coffee, which are included by direct producers and distributors in the final price for consumers.

Market experts also express not very optimistic forecasts regarding the future coffee harvest and its exports by Brazil, which is the largest producer of this product in the world.

What will coffee prices be like in the near future?

As a result, the price of coffee is expected to rise in the near future.

Ukraine is completely dependent on coffee purchases from abroad, so these trends will determine the price picture on the domestic market. It is also necessary to take into account the risks that specialized importing companies face as a result of Russia's ongoing armed aggression on the territory of our country,
– the scientist notes.

According to Bohdan Dukhnytsky, since the beginning of this year, a slight increase in the price of coffee has been recorded in Ukraine. In December 2025, the Espresso Index was 41.52 hryvnias, while in April 2026 it rose to 44.72 hryvnias (+8%). Based on this, there are reasons to predict another slight increase in the price of coffee in Ukraine, which in May 2026 may amount to 1-3%.

Frosts threaten fruit: what awaits the peach and apricot harvest?

  • Spring frosts in Ukraine have threatened the stone fruit harvest, but final forecasts about the state of the harvest will only be possible in the second half of May.

  • Fruit prices will rise due to increased costs of material and energy resources, not just due to crop losses from frost.

This year, the price of fruits and berries will be what the average consumer will be able to pay, given the expected increase in tariffs for gas, electricity, hot and cold water supply, housing and utility services, and more.
