Prices for basic food products continue to rise in Ukraine, and this trend is only intensifying. At the same time, fuel prices are rising, which further puts pressure on production costs and logistics.
Which products have become the most expensive?
Ukraine is recording a further increase in food prices – from cereals and vegetables to meat and fish. According to the “Minfin” website, buckwheat has risen in price the most since the beginning of 2026. If in January its average price was 33.02 hryvnias per kilogram, then in March it increased to 52.46 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 59% more.
Price formation is influenced by both internal factors and global processes, in particular the situation on world energy markets and currency fluctuations. Fruits and vegetables also showed significant growth. In particular, apples rose in price by 46% – from 31.46 to 45.78 hryvnias per kilogram. Tomatoes increased in price by 35% and currently cost an average of 167.42 hryvnias per kilogram.
Among other products that have significantly increased in price:
- refined sunflower oil – by 31% (up to 89.02 hryvnias for 850 milliliters);
- lightly salted herring – by 29% (up to 246.06 hryvnias per kilogram);
- chicken eggs – by 23% (up to 84.35 hryvnias per dozen);
- chicken (thigh) – by 22% (up to 138 hryvnias per kilogram);
- pork (breast) – by 19% (up to 211.08 hryvnias per kilogram);
- cucumbers – by 11% (up to 168.68 hryvnias per kilogram).
Does rising fuel prices affect the cost of products?
At the same time, fuel prices are rising in Ukraine, which directly affects the final cost of products. Due to the war, the country is largely dependent on imports of petroleum products, and the rise in world oil prices, particularly against the backdrop of tensions in the Middle East, is reflected in prices at gas stations.
Since the beginning of the year, premium A-95 gasoline has risen in price by 17% – to 73.22 hryvnias per liter, regular A-95 – by 20% (to 69.69 hryvnias per liter), A-92 – by 17% (to 66.22 hryvnias per liter). Autogas has increased in price by 15% – to 43.75 hryvnias per liter.
Diesel fuel increased in price the most – by 35%, to 78.48 hryvnias per liter. This factor has a key impact on the agricultural sector, as it determines the costs of sowing, harvesting, and transporting products.
Experts note that the combination of expensive fuel, logistical difficulties, and currency fluctuations will continue to push prices up, especially in the basic products segment.
