Not all products sold in markets are safe for consumption. The State Service for Food and Consumer Protection of Ukraine reminded of which products are strictly prohibited for sale and may pose a health threat.
What products are not allowed for sale?
Only food products that have passed laboratory control are allowed to be sold in markets, the State Food and Consumer Protection Service reports. The control is carried out in accredited laboratories, which usually operate directly on the market territory.
Any products with an expired expiration date or “use by” date are strictly prohibited. This applies to all categories without exception, including meat, dairy products, and other perishable goods.
It is also not allowed to sell products that require special storage conditions without refrigeration equipment. This includes meat, fish, dairy products, and other perishable goods.
Please note! It is separately prohibited to sell homemade semi-finished products and culinary products. This list includes minced meat, cutlets, homemade sausages, black pudding, seltzer, jellied meat and other similar products, since it is impossible to control the conditions of their manufacture.
Canned and low-quality products are under special control
Due to the high risk of botulism, it is prohibited to sell home-made canned foods – meat, fish, dairy, vegetables, fruits and mushrooms. Such products can pose a serious health risk due to possible bacterial contamination.
It is also not allowed to sell grains and cereals mixed with weeds or medicinal plants that may be toxic. Rotten, damaged or spoiled vegetables, fruits, berries and herbs are also prohibited.
Important! Experts emphasize: following these rules is key to consumer safety and helps avoid food poisoning and other health risks.
