What kind of increase in vegetable prices can we expect in April?

As Inna Salo, a researcher at the Institute of Agrarian Economics, told Channel 24 in a commentary, based on the results of April, we can expect a moderate increase in the price of vegetables due to additional storage and transportation costs.

The expert notes that the formation of vegetable prices depends on supply volumes, storage and transportation costs, as well as electricity tariffs and fuel prices, which have been increasing significantly recently.

In April 2026, a seasonal increase in the price of fruit and vegetable products is expected: vegetables – up to 5%, fruits – up to 7% compared to current prices.

As the expert notes, in Ukraine, about 88% of vegetables – up to 7.5 million tons – are grown by households. Therefore, the formation of supply and prices on the market significantly depends on storage conditions and logistics.

How much do vegetables cost in April?

As of the first decade of April, average prices for vegetables show different dynamics. For example, new potatoes, tomatoes, and garlic have increased significantly in price. While young cabbage, cucumbers, bell peppers, and pink potatoes have become cheaper.

According to the Ministry of Finance, as of April 9, the average cost of vegetables in Ukraine is as follows:

  • Young cabbage – 80.70 hryvnias per kilogram (-19 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • White cabbage – 10.20 hryvnia per kilogram (+0.95 hryvnia since the beginning of April);
  • Potatoes – 18.70 hryvnias per kilogram (-0.5 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • New potatoes – 37.46 hryvnias per kilogram (+13.06 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Pink potatoes – 29.99 hryvnias per kilogram (-10 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Onions – 8.56 hryvnias per kilogram (+0.93 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Blue onions – 23.75 hryvnias per kilogram (-2.35 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Carrots – 12.57 hryvnia per kilogram (+0.17 hryvnia since the beginning of April);
  • Smooth cucumbers – 178.95 hryvnias per kilogram (-6.84 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Prickly cucumbers – 224.50 hryvnias per kilogram (-63.5 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Yellow bell pepper – 310.35 hryvnias per kilogram (-4.32 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Red tomatoes – 259.94 hryvnias per kilogram (+36.35 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Pink tomatoes – 341.77 hryvnias per kilogram (+3.34 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Cream tomatoes – 264.50 hryvnias per kilogram (+12.3 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Beets – 9.30 hryvnias per kilogram (-0.53 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Garlic – 166.15 hryvnias per kilogram (+17.41 hryvnias since the beginning of April);
  • Young garlic – 170.62 hryvnias per kilogram (-6.67 hryvnias since the beginning of April).

Note! The decline in the price of vegetables is influenced by both a drop in demand due to the deterioration of product quality, as some lose their marketability, and the pressure of imports that enter the Ukrainian market and increase competition.

How has the cost of an Easter basket changed?

  • Analyst of the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club Maksym Hopka said in a comment for Channel 24 that the cost The cost of an Easter basket in 2026 will be almost 500 hryvnias in its basic form. This includes Easter eggs, salt, horseradish, and candles.

  • The most expensive items to bake Easter cakes have increased in price – by 12%, as well as the cost of eggs – by 13%. Overall, the cost of a basic Easter basket will be 12% higher compared to 2025.

  • The maximum cost of an Easter basket based on basic products, but with the addition of sausage, cheese, lard, mustard, cucumbers and tomatoes, as well as a bottle of Cahors, will increase to an average of 1,383 hryvnias. This is 17% more than in 2025.
