The Ukrainian fruit and vegetable market is demonstrating mixed price dynamics. While new-crop cabbage and strawberries are becoming cheaper, carrots, cucumbers, and last year's cabbage continue to rise in price.

Young vegetables are getting cheaper, old stocks are getting more expensive

The Ukrainian vegetable market is experiencing a noticeable change in price trends, EastFruit reports. The largest price reduction was recorded in the new harvest cabbage segment, the supply of which is growing rapidly (from 34-38 to 18-22 hryvnias per kilogram).

At the same time, last year's cabbage is showing the opposite trend. Due to reduced stocks and limited supply, its price continues to rise (from 15-17 to 22-24 hryvnias per kilogram).

Further price increases are also observed in the carrot market (from 16-19 to 20-26 hryvnias per kilogram). In addition, the price range for potatoes has narrowed (from 34-38 to 18-22 hryvnias per kilogram), which indicates a gradual leveling of the market after previous fluctuations.

For the second week in a row, cucumber prices have been rising (from 35-95 to 68-100 hryvnias per kilogram), which also indicates active demand or more limited supply in this segment.

Greens and berries are getting cheaper, eggplant is getting more expensive

Some vegetable items showed a decline in prices this week. In particular, zucchini became cheaper, and the cost of cauliflower and Beijing cabbage also decreased. Greens also became cheaper, which traditionally responds to an increase in seasonal supply.

Instead, eggplant went in the opposite direction – its price increased (from 70 – 90 to 140 – 150 hryvnias per kilogram).

The fruit and berry segment was also not left out of price changes. The market recorded another decrease in the cost of garden strawberries , which is associated with an increase in the supply of berries from Ukrainian producers and high competition between sellers.

Ukrainian new potatoes shocked with prices: why are they twice as expensive as Egyptian ones?

New potatoes have appeared in the capital's supermarkets, but their prices have caused heated discussions among buyers. The domestic vegetable turned out to be almost twice as expensive as imports from Egypt.

  • The high cost of Ukrainian potatoes is explained by difficult production conditions, such as greenhouse cultivation and energy costs.
