The launch of the electronic grape registry, which was supposed to start on January 1, 2026, is currently suspended. At the same time, craft producers are advised to prepare in advance for the new requirements and full traceability of products.
Wine production will be monitored
The electronic system that will allow tracking the path of grapes from the vineyard to the finished bottle of wine has not yet been launched, although it was planned to be launched on January 1, 2026, said Svitlana Tsybak, head of the Association of Craft Winemakers of Ukraine. However, producers should be prepared for the implementation of new rules, AgroPortal.ua reports.
According to her, winemakers will have to enter information about the area of plantations, harvest volumes and manufactured products into the register. The principle of operation assumes a clear correspondence between the harvested grapes and the amount of wine produced. For example, it is impossible to produce 1,000 bottles from 10 kilograms of Cabernet grapes – only a limited number that must be declared. This approach will ensure transparency of production. Although this will complicate the process for small producers, at the same time it will allow them to work in the official legal field.
Svitlana Tsybak also recalled that the Law of Ukraine “On Grapes, Wine and Viticulture Products”, which establishes clear requirements for wine production, came into force on January 1, 2026. The document introduces transparent rules harmonized with international practice, in particular, regulates issues of geographical indications and the procedure for their use.
Please note! In addition, product labeling requirements are being updated, which may require changes to labels. Ukraine is also refusing to use the names “cognac” and “champagne” for domestic products.
