The share of Ukrainian agricultural products in EU imports has decreased significantly

The European Union increased both exports and imports of agricultural products in 2025. At the same time, Ukraine's share in EU agricultural imports decreased significantly.

EU increased agricultural trade in 2025

According to Eurostat, in 2025 the European Union exported agricultural products worth 238.2 billion euros and imported 213.5 billion euros. The positive trade balance amounted to 24.7 billion euros.

Compared to 2024, exports increased by 1.6%, while imports increased by 9.3%.

Eurostat notes that over the past decade, EU agricultural trade has grown steadily. From 2015 to 2025, exports increased by an average of 4.4% each year, while imports increased by 5%.

The largest buyer of agricultural products from the EU in 2025 remained the United Kingdom, accounting for over 23% of exports. It was followed by the United States, Switzerland and China.

Ukraine's share in EU imports has decreased

The main suppliers of agricultural products to the European Union in 2025 were Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States and China.

At the same time, Ukraine's share in agricultural imports to the EU decreased from 6.7% to 5%. Eurostat explained this by the end of trade preferences that were previously introduced for Ukrainian agricultural products.

The department also noted that the US share in agricultural exports from the EU has decreased slightly due to the introduction of tariffs on certain goods.

At the same time, it is worth noting that the volumes of grain transportation from Ukraine still increased despite the decrease in exports to the EU.

  • In the first four months of 2026, Ukraine transported over 11.4 million tons of grain cargo by rail, which is 13.1% more than in 2025.

  • In April, 2.95 million tons of grain were transported by rail, of which 92% were sent to seaports.

Only 8% of grain is exported through western border crossings. Market experts note that port logistics continues to play a decisive role in the stable export of Ukrainian agricultural products.
