Ukraine is recording a gradual decline in sunflower prices after a period of high prices. Analysts attribute this trend to the restrained purchasing activity of processing enterprises.

Sunflower prices expected to drop soon

The Ukrainian sunflower market is witnessing a gradual decline in the price of raw materials, which until recently maintained high price levels, according to the analytical department of the agricultural cooperative PUSK, established within the framework of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council. Processing plants are taking a more cautious approach to purchases, which is already affecting price dynamics.

According to analysts, the significant supply of sunflower allowed processors to cover about 60–70 percent of their needs for February. At the same time, their purchasing activity is gradually decreasing, and the willingness to pay premiums above indicative prices has virtually disappeared. If at the beginning of last week market participants were still ready to bargain and offer premiums, now the first attempts to put pressure on prices are already appearing.

In the short term, experts expect further correction of quotations. During peak periods, sunflower with an oil content of 48 percent was sold at 29,500 – 29,700 hryvnias per ton for small batches. Currently, prices are mainly in the range of 28,800 – 29,000 hryvnias per ton, and a further decrease may be 500 – 700 hryvnias per ton.

Pay attention! At the same time, analysts do not see any prerequisites for a sharp market collapse. The supply of sunflower remains limited, which forms a relatively stable price base. In the absence of significant negative factors in February – March, the market may again try to test the levels of 29,500 – 30,000 hryvnias per ton.

Sunflower prices in Ukraine have soared to a seasonal high: what contributed to this?

  • Ukraine recorded the highest increase in sunflower purchase prices for the 2025-2026 season, which was due to the increase in the price of sunflower oil on world markets and the weakening of the hryvnia against the US dollar.

  • Purchase prices for sunflower increased by 1,000–1,500 hryvnias per ton to 29,000–30,000 hryvnias per ton, while export prices for sunflower oil increased by 20–30 USD per ton.
