Ukraine is recording a decline in sunflower prices amid weaker dynamics in the sunflower oil export market. Processing companies have already adjusted their purchase prices downwards.
The price of sunflower seeds on the market has begun to fall
Sunflower prices have begun to decline due to the situation in the sunflower oil export sector, analysts at APK-Inform reported.
According to their data, the purchase prices of processing enterprises dropped to 29–30 thousand hryvnias per ton under the terms of the CRT. Some plants reduced the asking price to 28.5–28.8 thousand hryvnias per ton, while others were ready to keep it at 30–30.5 thousand hryvnias per ton in the event of favorable offers.
Also, low demand remains in the sunflower meal segment, which has caused further downward price adjustments.
At the same time, according to Spike Brokers, in February Ukraine exported 327.9 thousand tons of sunflower oil. The largest buyers were the Netherlands (42.5 thousand tons), Spain (46.2 thousand tons), Italy (32.3 thousand tons) and France (33.8 thousand tons). Turkey imported 16.9 thousand tons.
Please note! Experts note that the geography of supplies remains diversified, but the European Union market dominates. Sunflower meal exports amounted to 344.3 thousand tons, of which 259.9 thousand tons went to China, which accounts for more than 75 percent of the volume and creates risks of excessive concentration in one market.
EU sunflower processing falls to 9-year low despite seasonal growth
-
In 2025, sunflower processing in the EU fell to 7.4 million tons, the lowest level in 9 years.
-
The reduction in processing volumes is explained by a decrease in production, restrained activity of farmers, and the impact of the war in Ukraine.
