Ukraine is recording mixed dynamics in prices for vegetables and fruits. Products from the new harvest are becoming cheaper, while the remains of last year's harvest are becoming more expensive.

New harvest puts pressure on prices, old harvest becomes more expensive

The prices of new harvest vegetables, in particular “borscht set” products, continue to fall on the Ukrainian market, EastFruit reports. At the same time, the remains of last year's vegetables are gradually increasing in price due to reduced stocks.

In particular, the price of onions has increased (from 5-8 to 7-9 hryvnias per kilogram), which has been declining since February. The prices of Beijing cabbage (from 45-50 to 50-55 hryvnias per kilogram) and cauliflower (from 200-220 to 180-200 hryvnias per kilogram) have also increased.

At the same time, cucumbers have been falling in price for the third week in a row (from 55-80 to 45-80 hryvnias per kilogram), and tomatoes have also lost in price (from 160-180 to 105-140 hryvnias per kilogram). Sellers are forced to reduce the cost of eggplants and zucchini due to weaker demand and increased supply. Radishes have also been falling in price for the second week in a row (from 58-65 to 35-65 hryvnias per kilogram).

In the greens segment, the situation is mixed: the prices of green onions , parsley , and sorrel have increased, while dill , lettuce , and arugula have become more affordable for consumers.

Fruit is getting more expensive, but not all equally

Unlike the vegetable segment, the fruit and berry market is mostly showing price increases. The price of garden strawberries has increased the most (from 160-250 to 200-300 hryvnias per kilogram), which traditionally remains sensitive to seasonal factors.

Prices of imported fruits – lemons , tangerines and kiwis – have also increased. This may be due to logistical costs and limited supply.

The price situation for pears has become more diverse – the price range has expanded (from 50 – 130 to 40 – 135 hryvnias per kilogram), while for apples , on the contrary, it has narrowed (from 18 – 50 to 22 – 45 hryvnias per kilogram). In general, the market remains unstable and reacts to changes in seasonal supply and demand.

Cucumbers are rapidly falling in price for the third week in a row: what are the prices in supermarkets?

The greenhouse cucumber market in Ukraine continues to show a downward trend in prices. The key reasons were the seasonal increase in supply and slow sales.

  • Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are falling due to increasing supply and weak demand, and are offered for 40 – 70 hryvnias per kilogram.

  • Warm weather accelerated the ripening of cucumbers, which further increased market volumes and forced farmers to lower prices.

As a result, farmers are forced to lower prices to avoid hoarding. If demand does not increase, the trend towards lower prices may continue.
