A few kilometers from Lviv, a local resident grows hundreds of tropical and subtropical plants, from bananas to cocoa. In her own greenhouse, she has been experimenting with exotic crops for over 15 years and sharing her experience with others.
How to create tropics near Lviv?
Near Lviv, amidst the usual Ukrainian landscapes, there is an unusual greenhouse with an area of about 500 square meters, where bananas, mangoes, papayas, jackfruit, cocoa and hundreds of varieties of citrus fruits grow, reports Lviv24. It was created by Tetyana Zagorodnyk, who has been collecting exotic plants for over 15 years.
The greenhouse is divided into two zones – tropical and subtropical, where the necessary conditions for different crops are maintained. According to the hostess, the collection was formed gradually – from the first plant to the current large garden.
Open Agri Club is your reliable partner in agribusiness. Participants receive financing for the sowing campaign, three days for application review. And also – free soil analysis, fertilizers at special prices, agronomist consultations. Everything you need for a successful season.
Tetyana inherited her love of plants from her farmer parents and over time began to experiment with different species. Today, dozens of varieties of bananas, mangoes, avocados, papayas, jackfruit, durians, and rare citrus fruits grow here. Her collection includes over 50 varieties of bananas with different tastes, from sweet to slightly sour.
Some of the plants the woman brings back from her travels. For example, she grew a banana from Sri Lanka from planting material brought home after visiting plantations. To make efficient use of space, Tetyana practices grafting – several varieties of mango can grow on one tree.
Plants for Tatyana – like family members
The greenhouse uses both natural and manual pollination, and for stable plant growth, soil heating, lighting, ventilation, and autonomous heating systems have been installed. Energy independence is ensured by solar panels, batteries, geothermal heat, and a backup generator.
Interesting! To maintain humidity in the tropical zone, a small pond with ornamental fish has been installed, which helps create the necessary microclimate even on hot days.
In total, the collection includes over a thousand plants from different countries – from papaya and mangosteen to rare citrus species. Special attention is paid to care: the hostess independently studies information from international sources, experiments with feeding and growing conditions.
Pay attention! Tetyana shares her knowledge with those who are interested – she sells seedlings, maintains pages on social networks and advises those who want to grow exotic plants. For her, the greenhouse has become not just a hobby, but a life's work, combining science, technology and love for plants.
