At the end of January 2026, the Ukrainian market for live slaughter pigs showed signs of price recovery. After a period of pressure, quotes began to gradually increase, approaching seasonal levels.

Why did live pig prices start to rise in January?

In Ukraine, a recovery in prices for live pigs in slaughter conditions was recorded at the end of January 2026, the “Ukrainian Pig Farmers” association reports, citing industry observations. According to the results of last Friday's trading, prices for live pork increased by 2-7 hryvnias per kilogram.

During the week, the main commodity lots were purchased at a price of 66 to 68 and more hryvnias per kilogram, and the most common offer in the regions was the price of 67 hryvnias per kilogram. The weighted average indicator reached 67.30 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 9.1% higher than the previous level.

Analysts attribute the price increase to the reduction in pressure from transitional residues of animals with increased slaughter weight. Surplus lots that were not sold during the holiday period gradually left the market, as a result of which the average slaughter weight and the total supply returned to standard values.

Please note! Although not all harvesters are currently voicing forecasts for further price dynamics, their expectations are mostly the same – most market operators are counting on further strengthening of quotations. At the same time, there has been no noticeable revival of trading activity yet, which market participants consider typical for this season, characterizing the course of trading as stable and planned.
