How prices for vegetables and fruits changed over the week

Last week, the Ukrainian vegetable market was dominated by a downward trend in prices, EastFruit reports. Some popular items from the so-called “borscht set” fell the most in price.

In particular, prices for white cabbage continued to fall (from 9-11 to 8-11 hryvnias per kilogram), and the cost of potatoes also decreased (from 12-15 to 12-14 hryvnias per kilogram). More active sales of carrots from storage also contributed to a decrease in prices for this vegetable (from 12-15 to 10-14 hryvnias per kilogram).

Tomatoes are cheaper for the second week in a row (from 110-135 to 110-125 hryvnias per kilogram). At the same time, the cucumber market saw an expansion of the price range (from 120-170 to 100-180 hryvnias per kilogram).

In addition, prices for cauliflower (from 155-165 to 125-145 hryvnias per kilogram) and broccoli (from 160-170 to 125-135 hryvnias per kilogram) have decreased. The price of Beijing cabbage (from 25-35 to 25-30 hryvnias per kilogram) and garlic (from 115-125 to 100-120 hryvnias per kilogram) has also decreased. At the same time, Ukrainian garlic is gradually losing ground on the domestic market, giving way to cheaper products from China.

Please note! In the greens segment, lettuce continues to fall in price (from 200-230 to 180-200 hryvnias per kilogram). At the same time, prices for green onions (from 145-155 to 190-210 hryvnias per kilogram) and dill (from 195-205 to 200-220 hryvnias per kilogram) have increased.

How have fruit prices changed?

In the fruit segment, a decrease in prices for citrus fruits was recorded. At the same time, pomegranate and avocado prices increased, while persimmons became cheaper.

In addition, the price range on the grape market has expanded (from 60 – 170 to 55 – 260 hryvnias per kilogram), while for garden strawberries it has narrowed (from 320 – 450 to 380 – 420 hryvnias per kilogram).

Excess production puts pressure on the market: carrots have become significantly cheaper in Ukraine

  • Carrot prices in Ukraine have decreased due to increased sales from storage, which has created a surplus of supply.

  • Carrots are currently being sold 11% cheaper than last week, with prices ranging from 8 to 14 hryvnias per kilogram, depending on quality.
