What will fishing be like in February / Collage of Channel 24
It is safe to say that January has become the month of winter fishing, because due to severe frosts, ice has formed on all rivers and other bodies of water in Ukraine. February should be similar to the previous month, but it may still bring weather surprises in the form of warming.
When will the fish bite best in February?
The last month of winter is not very favorable for fishermen: in February, the ice reaches its maximum thickness, and the fish become sluggish, which makes the bite noticeably weaker, reports “Facts”. However, if you plan your trip to the reservoir correctly, taking into account the lunar calendar and weather, the chances of success are preserved.
The fishing calendar for February 2026 will tell you when fish activity will be highest. The month will begin with the full moon on February 2 – in the first days the bite is expected to be weak. Until the new moon on February 17, the fish will behave unstable and will react to baits too picky.
The most promising period for fishing will be the period of the waxing moon from February 18 to 28. The days in the middle of the first decade of the month – from February 5 to 10 – may also be relatively successful.
- The best days for fishing: February 5, 6, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24.
- Good days: February 7, 8, 9, 19, 25, 26, 27.
- Bad days: February 4, 10, 11, 12, 13, 28.
- Very bad days: February 1, 2, 3, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18.
What is the best way to fish in February?
In February, anglers are advised to use the most delicate tackle possible: thin fishing lines with a diameter of 0.08 – 0.10 millimeters and light spinners. At the beginning of the month, pike will stick to deep holes and are better caught on a jig with thin fluorocarbon leashes.
During this period, perch concentrate on the riverbank edges and respond to careful spinning of the spinner and minimal baiting with bloodworms. The activity of pike perch will remain spotty: it should be sought on deep snags and rocky drops, and the best bite is possible in the early twilight.
