In Ukraine, there are established standards that must be followed when determining the height of a fence. These are the DBN. In 2026, these rules did not change.
How many meters of fence can be built around the house?
The maximum fence height is determined depending on where the fence is located, according to the DBN.
In particular, the fence between adjacent plots should be no more than 2 meters. This refers to the fence between neighbors.
But on the street side, the fence can be higher. The maximum in this case is 2.5 meters.
In addition to these requirements, it is also necessary to:
- familiarize yourself with the requirements established by the village or city local council;
- after all, the local council has the right to agree on local development rules that only supplement state regulations, and not contradict them.
Please note! Only homestead plots and private households can be fenced.
Please note that it is currently impossible to legalize a fence higher than the specified standards. According to Article 152 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, such a violation will result in a fine:
- for ordinary citizens it is from 340 to 1,360 hryvnias;
- and for entrepreneurs and officials – from 850 hryvnias to 1,700 hryvnias.
In addition, you will need:
- replace the fence completely;
- or, if possible, change its design.
