The global biofuel boom has boosted demand for rapeseed, including Ukrainian rapeseed. However, trade remains subdued due to seasonal factors and uncertainty in key markets.

How are demand and prices for rapeseed changing?

The growing interest in biofuels has increased demand for rapeseed, which is one of the key crops for biodiesel production, APK-Inform reports. This has also affected the Ukrainian market, where buyer activity remains stable.

Traders' main focus is already shifting to the new crop, but interest in 2025 rapeseed also remains. At the same time, the pace of deals remains moderate due to seasonal factors.

In the export direction, demand prices for old-crop rapeseed are kept within the range of 550–558 USD per ton on CPT-port terms and 550–560 USD per ton on DAP-western border terms. At the same time, domestic processors have increased their purchase prices to 25,000–26,000 UAH per ton on CPT terms.

Uncertainty in the US is holding back the market

Despite the overall positive trend, the situation on the global market remains ambiguous. One of the key centers of biodiesel production – the USA – is in a state of uncertainty.

In particular, the decision on the mandatory use of biofuels (RVO) is delayed, which affects the demand for vegetable oils, including soybean and rapeseed. As a result, global demand has not yet shown full growth.

Please note! Experts note that further market dynamics will depend on political decisions and the development of the biofuel sector, which can both increase demand and restrain it in the short term.

Processing outpaces exports: new records for rapeseed and soybean oil

  • Rapeseed oil exports increased 2.2 times, and foreign exchange earnings increased 2.7 times compared to the same period last year.

  • Exports of soybean oil increased by 19.3% and soybean meal by 21% in September–February of the 2025–2026 marketing year.
