In Ukraine, the price of white cabbage is rapidly falling due to the deterioration of the quality of the product in storage. Farmers are forced to hastily sell off their stocks amid weak demand and growing imports.

Quality is declining, farmers are selling off their stocks

According to EastFruit's daily monitoring, most Ukrainian producers report rapid deterioration in the quality of white cabbage from the 2025 harvest during storage. This is forcing farmers to enter the market more actively and accelerate sales.

Market participants note that producers are trying to sell off leftovers before the mass appearance of early vegetables. After all, the increase in supply of the new harvest may further increase pressure on prices.

Please note! As of today, white cabbage is being sold for 2–8 hryvnias per kilogram, which is an average of 22% cheaper than a week earlier. Such dynamics indicate a sharp decline in the market in a short period.

Imports and weak demand are driving down prices

Market participants say the main reason for the price drop is a drop in demand due to deteriorating product quality . Consumers are less willing to buy vegetables that lose their presentation and shelf life.

Additional pressure is being created by imports: new crop cabbage from abroad is actively entering the Ukrainian market , which increases competition. As a result, prices continue to decline.

Interestingly! In annual terms, the situation is even more telling – current prices for white cabbage are approximately 88% lower than last year. Analysts believe that price recovery is possible only after the complete sale of last year's stocks.

The first Ukrainian tomatoes are already on the market: why are prices breaking records?

  • Ukrainian greenhouse tomatoes on the market cost 150–170 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 66% more expensive than last year.

  • The bulk of the supply is made up of imported tomatoes from Turkey, which are cheaper but still expensive, costing 130–150 hryvnias per kilogram.
