A tragic bus accident during a funeral in Kenya has resulted in the deaths of at least 25 individuals and left several others injured, according to reports from the Associated Press.
The incident took place on the evening of August 8, close to the city of Kisumu.
A bus transporting passengers who were returning from a funeral in Kakamega City overturned and plunged into a ditch for reasons yet to be determined. The driver was allegedly traveling at excessive speed.
Twenty-one individuals were pronounced dead at the site of the accident – comprising 10 women, 10 men, and a 10-year-old girl. Four additional individuals succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.
It is believed that all the passengers were likely members of the same family.
Road accidents are frequent in Kenya, where the roads are narrow, poorly maintained, and riddled with potholes.
Authorities often cite speeding drivers as a primary cause of traffic accidents.
