Trump announced new import tariffs: Ukraine is on this list

On Wednesday, April 2, United States President Donald Trump announced the introduction of new tariffs on foreign goods.

He made this announcement during a speech in the Rose Garden of the White House, CNN reports.

Speaking in the White House Rose Garden, he said that these measures would help lower taxes, pay down the national debt, and promote the development of American industry.

“For a long time, other countries have grown rich at our expense, but now it's our turn to prosper,” Trump said.

The new measures include a 25% tariff on all foreign-made cars, effective at midnight. The US is also imposing tariffs of at least 10% on most imported goods, with even higher rates for some countries.

The White House has released a list of countries that will be subject to the new rules. Ukraine will pay a base tariff of 10%. However, this list does not include Russia, as well as Canada and Mexico, which have avoided the new tariffs.

Trump explained his decision by the need to correct a “terrible imbalance” that he said threatened US national security. He also stressed that American companies would no longer be allowed to move production to other countries.

“We are protecting American workers and rebuilding our industrial base. The global trading system must be fair, not just one that benefits others,” Trump stressed.

However, experts warn that such measures could trigger a new round of global trade wars and lead to higher prices for American consumers. Despite this, the Trump administration is confident that this step will ensure economic stability in the US in the long term.
