Heating will not be turned off in the capital for now, — Kyiv City State Administration
Central heating in Kyiv will not be turned off for now. At the end of this week and the beginning of next week, there will be a cold snap and possible temperatures below zero.
This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Petro Panteleyev.
According to him, Kyiv has one of the largest heat supply systems in Europe: almost 3 thousand kilometers of heating networks.
– The scale of the heat and power complex makes it quite inert in terms of turning the heat on or off. These processes, as a rule, take about a week. The city's heat supply enterprises constantly monitor the outside air temperature and the long-term forecast. As soon as the weather stabilizes, this will give us the opportunity to turn off the heating, – said Petro Panteleyev.
It is noted that the lack of heating in cold weather conditions will lead to increased electricity consumption and its possible shortage due to the amount of damage to the Ukrainian power system.
The official recalled that the city always focuses on the temperature indicator at the beginning and end of the heating season, trying to use energy resources as rationally as possible and ensure that Kyiv residents do not pay too much for heat.
The last heating season in Kyiv ended on March 28.
