Canada imposes sanctions on 100 vessels of the Russian shadow fleet

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced the introduction of additional sanctions against tankers of the Russian shadow fleet.

This is stated on the department's website.

“To further strengthen our efforts to counter Russian sanctions evasion, Canada is adding 100 more vessels from Russia's shadow fleet to its sanctions list,” Anand said.

According to her, Russia continues to rely on oil and gas revenues to finance its war against Ukraine, using a shadow fleet to transport sanctioned goods and raw materials, including crude oil, to countries around the world.

The minister emphasized that the sanctions are designed to limit Russia's ability to finance its military efforts and prevent it from harming the civilian population.

“Canada remains steadfast in its commitment to the sovereignty of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, who are resolutely defending their rights against Putin's destructive and aggressive actions. Until Russia ceases its aggression, Canada will continue to increase pressure through sanctions, in coordination with its allies and partners,” Anand said.

In total, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 600 vessels due to their involvement in the transportation of goods and products for the benefit of Russia.
