Latvia won’t issue visas to Russians despite Prigozhin’s rebellion

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs said that Latvia will not issue humanitarian or other types of visas to Russians, and will not change the restrictions on border crossing introduced last year, even amid the current events in Russia

Edgars Rinkēvičs wrote about this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"Latvia is closely flowing the develing situation in Russia and exchanging information with allies. Border security has been strengthened, visa or border entry from Russians leaving Russia due to current events won’t be considered. No direct threat to Latvia at this time," Rinkēvičs wrote.

Latvia's national broadcaster reports on the reaction of other high-ranking officials to the events. In particular, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karinš said that the eastern border is under tight contr, the Latvian government, responsible authorities and services are in close coordination and are monitoring the events in Russia. The Prime Minister also urged Latvians to refrain from traveling to Russia and Belarus.

Latvian Interior Minister Maris Kuchinskis instructed the State Border Guard to strengthen border contr measures on the border with Russia and Belarus. He assured that, if necessary, the support of the National Armed Forces and additional resources would be mobilized.

As Ukrinform reported, on June 23, the leader of the "Wagner" PMC, Yevhen Prigozhin, announced a demarche against the Russian military leadership, in particular against Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

According to him, Shoigu flew to Rostov-on-Don, where he personally conducted an eration to destroy the "Wagnerites".

"Wagner" took contr of military facilities in Rostov-on-Don.

Prigozhin announced his intention to reach Moscow.
