19-year-old American boxer put into induced coma after knockout

19-year-old American boxer Isis Sio was hospitalized after a knockout loss to Jocelyn Camarillo (6-0, 1 KO). The athlete was placed in a medically induced coma after sustaining injuries, a spokesman for ProBoxTV, which organized the fight, said.

The fight opened the evening of boxing organized by the ProBoxTV platform in California. For Isis Sio, it was her fourth professional appearance: so far she had one win and two losses. Sio's opponent was Jocelyn Camarillo, a three-time US amateur champion who at the time of the fight had an unbeaten streak of five victories (all by decision).

The fight ended at the 78th second of the first round. Sio was hit by a series of blows, after which she was knocked out. According to ProBoxTV, the athlete began to have convulsions right in the ring. Medical personnel provided first aid on the spot, after which the boxer was urgently transported to the hospital.

At Loma Linda University Medical Center, doctors decided to place Sio in an induced coma to stabilize her condition and reduce the risk of further complications.

Tournament organizers released an official statement regarding the incident.

“On behalf of CEO Harry Jonas and the entire ProBox family, we pray for a speedy recovery for Isis Sio. Ms. Sio is currently in an induced coma. Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time. We wanted a knockout. It's a bit bittersweet because we hope the girl is okay. We pray for her and her entire team,” ProBoxTV said in a statement.
