Olympic biathlon medalist Eder announces retirement: he is the second most successful biathlete in World Cup history

Titled Austrian biathlete Simon Eder has completed the final race of his career. The Austrian announced his decision to end his career on Instagram before the start of the final stage of the World Cup.

Eder was competing in his 18th season at the World Cup level, with his best result being ninth place in the pursuit in Annecy. The biathlete had his last sprint race at the Holmenkollen stage, where he did not miss a beat, but finished 64th, failing to advance to the pursuit and failing to qualify for the mass start.

“I've been [thinking about ending my career] for a long time. But the fact that I'm ending my career was 90% certain a long time ago. I finally decided it while I was in Oslo. I've done my best, and Holmenkollen is the perfect place to put an end to it. A book with so many pages has to be closed at some point – now is the time. It's easier to close this chapter with Lisa Theresa [Hauser],” — Eder said in an interview with Krone.
