Torture in Katyuzhanka during the occupation of Kyiv region: law enforcement officers have completed the investigation

Law enforcement officers have sent the case materials to court regarding a sergeant from the 155th Separate Marine Brigade of the Russian Pacific Fleet. He will be tried for torturing a civilian man in Katyuzhanka during the occupation of the Kyiv region at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

This was reported on March 18 by the Kyiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, in March 2022, during the occupation of the village of Katyuzhanka, Vyshhorod district, the accused, together with other Russian servicemen, broke into the house of a local man and demanded that he confess to alleged “collaboration” with the Ukrainian military.

“After he refused, the soldier hit him, knocked him down, and began beating him with his hands and the butt of his weapon,” the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

In September 2025, a Russian soldier was reported suspicious.

He was charged with cruel treatment of the civilian population committed by a group of persons — Part 1 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigative editorial team of Suspilny investigated how justice works against the occupiers and what will happen to sentences passed in absentia. Is there a chance that criminals will end up behind bars, and are those who have already been sentenced in absentia still serving their sentences?
