American 60-meter runner Jordan Anthony made his World Indoor Championships debut with a victory, breaking the world season record.
Anthony was approaching the World Indoor Championships, having made four starts in the winter part of the season in the 60 meters. At first, the athlete won two bronze medals, but then won twice at home tournaments in the United States. Anthony's best 60-meter time on the eve of the World Indoor Championships was 6.43 seconds.

At his debut World Indoor Championships, Anthony's main rival was compatriot Trayvon Bromell, who held the season's world record for the 60 m with a time of 6.42 seconds.
Anthony ran a personal best of 6.54 seconds in the heats, while in the semi-finals he improved to 6.43 seconds, a season-best. In the final, Anthony won with a time of 6.41 seconds, a career-best. Bromell finished third, while Olympic 100m champion Keeshane Thompson took silver, beating the American in a photo finish.
Final. 60 m (men)
- Jordan Anthony (USA) — 6.41 seconds
- Kishane Thompson (Jamaica) – 6.45
- Trayvon Bromell (USA) — 6.45
With a time of 6.41 seconds, Anthony not only set a personal best, but also updated the season's world record. The American improved Bromell's result by 0.01 seconds. Before the competition, Anthony said that his goal was to break the world record at this distance, which has been held by another US representative, Christian Coleman (6.34 seconds) since 2018.
“Winning gold is great, but honestly, I'm more happy for the crowd than for myself. I'm happy to sign autographs and just chat with people a little bit. I talked to Trayvon Bromell's coach before the semi-final. I told him Trayvon would set the pace in his race and I would follow him. When I saw he ran 6.42 seconds [in the semi-final], I thought, 'Okay, now I need to run faster.'”
“The final was great, but I still have a lot to do. The most important thing is that I made the right debut and bring the gold medal back to the USA.” In 2024, the American Christian Coleman, who currently holds the world record, won the 60-meter dash. Then the runner won the final with the same time (6.41 seconds) as Anthony at the 2026 World Indoor Championships . I used to play American football and performed in front of much more people, but going to the World Indoor Championships made me happier. It was easy for me, it proves that I chose the right sport. I'm looking forward to the outdoor season.”
