Dayana Yastremska won a strong-willed victory and reached the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami

Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska reached the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. The Ukrainian defeated the representative of the United States, Ashlyn Kruger, in three sets.

Yastremska won the victory over Kruger in a strong-willed style. The Ukrainian lost the first game 2:6, but won the second 6:4 thanks to two breaks.

In the decisive, third set, Yastremska played three match points at once with a score of 4:5. And in the next game, after equalizing the score, she made a break and avoided a tiebreak – 7:5.

For Yastremska, this is her third appearance in the second round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. She first played at this stage in 2019 and then returned there in 2024.

Yastremska's next opponent will be 25th seed Jelena Ostapenko. This will be the fourth head-to-head meeting between the tennis players, the Ukrainian has won only once.

  • Yastremska is the second Ukrainian tennis player to advance past the opening round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. In addition to her, Yulia Starodubtseva also managed to do so, defeating Germany's Eva Lys and reaching the second round of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career.
