PSG defeated Chelsea in two matches without Zabarny and reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League

Champions League holders PSG defeated Chelsea to reach the quarter-finals of the European Cup. The second leg between the teams ended with a score of 3-0 in favor of the Parisian team.

PSG finished the main round of the Champions League in 11th place, which led to the team playing in the play-offs for the 1/8 finals, in which they defeated their compatriots “Monaco” with an aggregate score of 5:4. While “Chelsea” directly reached the 1/8 finals, having taken sixth place in the main round of the tournament.

The teams went into the second leg on the back of PSG's advantage in the first leg. Then, the reigning trophy holders scored twice in the last five minutes of the match against the London club and ultimately ended the match with a 5-2 victory.

How was the match?

  • In the sixth minute of the match, the PSG goalkeeper made a long pass to midfielder Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who made a run down the left flank and, in a fight with defender Mamadou Sarr, sent the ball into the Chelsea net.
  • In the 14th minute, Chelsea lost the ball in midfield, allowing PSG to launch their own attack. Right-back Achraf Hakimi passed to forward Bradley Barcol, and the Frenchman doubled his team's lead with a shot into the far post.
  • At the equator of the first half, Barkolya had a chance to score for the second time in this match, but the ball went past the right post after the striker's shot.
  • At the end of the first 45 minutes, Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer received the ball in the PSG penalty area, but the Englishman's shot was saved by the Parisian goalkeeper.
  • In the 62nd minute of the match, Achraf Hakimi failed to finish the ball after a pass from a partner, but 19-year-old midfielder Senny Mayulu was able to intercept the ball and send it into the net, making the score 3:0.

PSG's opponent in the Champions League quarter-finals will be determined in the match between Turkish side Galatasaray and English side Liverpool. The first legs of the quarter-finals will be held on April 7-8, with the return legs on April 14-15.
