Scottish forward Robbie Ure was being considered for naturalization to join the Ukrainian national football team, the striker himself confirmed in a comment to Fotbollskanalen.
Jur is a 22-year-old footballer who was born in Scotland and has Ukrainian roots through his grandfather. The striker has been playing for the Swedish club Sirius since March 2025.
In early January, journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Yur was in the process of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship. The forward confirmed that he had been contacted by representatives of the national team.
“Honestly, right now I have no idea what's going on. The interest is real, and I know that the Ukrainian national team is interested in me. Now I just have to wait and see what happens. I was checked in Ukraine, and I'm not worried. I'm young, and I'm not worried, we'll see what happens. A few months ago they [the national team] tried to get me a Ukrainian passport. But I don't know any more than you do,” Yur said.
“I don't think it will happen. Ukraine has several strikers at the highest level, and they play in the top European leagues,” the striker added.
The Scot believes it is unlikely that he will be nationalized soon, as the “blue and yellow” have strong strikers representing European clubs in the 2026 World Cup qualifying play-off squad. Ukraine will play against Sweden in the first match on Thursday, March 26.
“Right now, to be honest, I'm not thinking about it. I don't think I'll be called up to their national teams. When that day comes, I'll think about it more. Right now, I'm just focused on playing for Sirius and helping my team,” said Yur.
Yur played five matches for the Scotland U19 team, scoring two goals, but was never called up to the national team. Also, according to Jacobs, Polissya was interested in the striker with an offer of 1.5 million euros – Sirius rejected the offer. It was expected that the Zhytomyr team would return with an improved offer of 2.5 million.
Since February, when the Swedish Cup competition began, the striker has scored four goals. In the championship, however, Jür scored 11 goals and provided four assists.
Brazilian Shakhtar player Pedrinho was also linked to naturalization to the Ukrainian national team before the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff.
