Gazprom is losing money due to the mass rejection of Russian gas, but now it is betting on another business that was “taken away” from a Western company. For example, they have already started producing refrigerators.

Why did Gazprom start producing household appliances?

The Bosch household appliances plant near St. Petersburg, which is now managed by a subsidiary of Gazprom, has resumed production of refrigerators in 2025, The Moscow Times reports.

According to the company's financial statements, net profit amounted to 192.5 million rubles, compared to a loss of 1.7 billion a year earlier:

  • It is known that by the end of 2025, the company had established the production of more than 30 models of refrigerators.
  • The plant has concluded more than 20 contracts for the sale of products.
  • The first buyers were large Russian retailers M.Video-Eldorado and DNS, as well as the household appliance retailer Weissgauff.

In 2026, it is planned to increase production to 100 thousand units, and in 2027 – to 220 thousand. In parallel, the company is preparing to organize the production of washing machines.

By the way, Bosch stopped producing home appliances in Russia in 2022 and planned to sell the company in 2024, but the deal did not take place. In April of that year, Putin signed a decree according to which the Russian subsidiaries of home appliance manufacturers Ariston and Bosch were transferred to the temporary management of Gazprom Household Systems.

In March 2025, Ariston Holding NV regained control of its Russian asset, Ariston Thermo Rus LLC. Meanwhile, the Bosch plant remains under the management of Gazprom, although it is 100% owned by the German concern.

How much money is Russia's Gazprom losing?

  • Due to sanctions, Russian gas supplies to EU countries have decreased sharply – approximately six times compared to 2021.

  • As a result, the Russian energy giant's financial revenues have decreased significantly. At the end of 2023, Gazprom ended the year with a loss of almost $7 billion.

  • An additional blow for the company will be the termination of the contract for gas transit through Ukraine. After the termination of the agreement with Naftogaz, Gazprom is estimated to lose about $6 billion in gas sales revenue each year.

  • As a result, the company's net losses in 2024 exceeded 1 trillion rubles (about $12 billion). In the first nine months of 2025, Gazprom suffered additional losses of more than 170 billion rubles (about $1.8 billion).

  • Against the backdrop of such financial problems, the Russian State Duma even decided to grant tax breaks to Gazprom to partially alleviate its financial situation.
