A case has been filed against a Kyiv resident and his accomplice, who, according to investigators, attempted to import 27 kg of drugs worth over 48 million hryvnias into Ukraine. They have already been given a preventive measure.
This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region.
According to the investigation, a 45-year-old Kyiv resident purchased a large batch of drugs abroad and recruited a 34-year-old woman to act as a courier in the scheme.
In October last year, a woman arrived by car at the Uhryniv checkpoint. During the inspection of the car, customs officers discovered a special hiding place, equipped in the bottom, where drugs were hidden. The total weight of the seized prohibited substances was over 27 kg.
According to the results of the examinations, experts established that the woman planned to import cocaine, mephedrone and ketamine into Ukraine. According to operational data, the cost of the “clean” goods at “black market” prices is over 48 million UAH.
The press service of the Prosecutor General's Office reported that the man was charged with attempted illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale in particularly large quantities, as well as illegal storage of psychotropic substances without the purpose of sale (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 307, Part 2 of Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The woman is accused of attempted smuggling of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in particularly large quantities and their illegal transportation for the purpose of sale (Part 2 of Article 15, Part 3 of Article 305, Part 3 of Article 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The criminal case materials have already been sent to the court. At the request of the prosecutor, the accused are being held in custody without bail.
