Belgian Prime Minister Calls on EU to Negotiate with Russia on Peace in Ukraine

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever called on the European Union to negotiate with Russia to resolve the war in Ukraine, as it has so far failed to force Moscow to make peace.

He said this in an interview with the Belgian publication L'Echo, Euractiv writes.

“Since we cannot intimidate Putin by supplying weapons to Ukraine, and we cannot economically strangle him without the support of the United States, there is only one way: to reach an agreement,” de Wever said.

According to the prime minister, bringing Russia to its knees is only possible with “100% support from the United States.”

He noted that, in his opinion, the US is not completely on Ukraine's side, sometimes they seem “closer to Putin.”

“Without a mandate for negotiations in Moscow, we are not at the negotiating table where the Americans will push Ukraine to accept the agreement. And I can already say that this will be a bad deal for us,” he said.
