Ukraine won its first medal at the 2026 Paralympics in cross-country skiing

At the 2026 Paralympic Games, the para skiing competition continued with a mixed relay. 10 teams, including the Ukrainian team, participated in it.

The “Blue-Yellows” in the mixed relay were represented by Pavlo Bal, Taras Rad, Oleksandra Kononova, and Lyudmila Lyashenko. According to the rules, each athlete had to cover a distance of 2.5 km and then pass the baton to a teammate.

Pavlo Bal competed for the Ukrainian national team in the first stage. According to the results of his stage, Bal led the fight for awards, passing the baton in third place. The Ukrainian was 25.1 seconds behind the German athlete.

Rad became the second representative of the team in the mixed relay. In his stage, he managed to catch up with the leader and eventually take the interim first place, 29 seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

Kononova was able to keep Ukraine in the leading position after the third stage. However, Lyashenko, having passed half the distance as the leader, gave up the “gold” in the last meters of the distance, finishing second.

This is the first award for Ukraine at the 2026 Paralympic Games in para-skiing. At this year's Games, the “blue and yellow” won prizes exclusively in para-biathlon competitions.
