The State Emergency Service (SES) has released footage of the rescue of one of the capital's thermal power plants, damaged by a Russian strike, “thanks to which we managed to prevent a real catastrophe and destroy enemy plans to destroy our energy system.”
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv State Emergency Service.
After the Russian attacks, the world's attention is focused on how Kyiv, a city of millions, is warming up in conditions of power and heat outages, while at this time “a desperate struggle is going on around the clock, invisible to the general public, under enemy gunfire and in extreme conditions,” say the Kyiv State Emergency Service.
For example, the State Emergency Service published a video of the work of specialists from the underwater demining department, who carried out hydraulic engineering work at the water intake node of one of the capital's thermal power plants.
Three divers-sapper saved the water intake engine room from flooding by sealing one of the pipelines. This allowed the water to be pumped out so that the power engineers could begin restoring the CHP.
“We stopped the flow of icy water in conditions of strong current from a breakthrough, limited in time and without the right to make a mistake,” the State Emergency Service said.
Divers-sapper Oleksandr Tumanov, Serhiy Makovsky, and Yevhen Pasichnyk were awarded state awards for this work, “undoubtedly becoming one of its true heroes this winter,” the Kyiv State Emergency Service noted.
As we previously reported, members of the European Parliament and national parliaments of European countries visited the Darnytsia CHP, damaged by Russian shelling, in late February. The Ministry of Community and Territorial Development presented to partners a plan for preparing for the next heating season and Ukraine's needs.
